Booklist

To start my study based on the points mentioned in the previous post, i focused on a few broader topics to expand and have a detailed knowledge on design process and concepts.

For facade designing:

1.     Broto, Eduard. 2016. Creative Facades. Barcelona: Links International (Leading International Key Services Barcelona, S.A.).
2.      Gang, Jeanne. 2012. Building: Inside Studio Gang Architects. Chicago: Studio Gang Architects.

The first two books are solely for understanding the art in facade designing and the material characteristics. The case studies and focused research in these books will help in understanding the impact, of different facade patterns and materials, on the user and surroundings. The book by Jeanne Gang is to have a deeper understanding of her design principles, thought process and execution.

Since the firm Studio Gang won the O'Hare international Airport competition in Chicago, the principal architect has received quite a lot of criticism and been questioned whether she was worthy to be awarded the project instead of the more experienced architects who participated. During this crucial time for the firm, they have arranged various tours of their projects and offices for students and professionals of different universities in the city. I have an opportunity from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago to join the Studio Gang tour and I aim to have a conversation with one of the architects of the firm about The Writer's Theater which is a much less spoken about modern project in the state.

Apart from the facade study, I further plan on reading some material based on interior designing and built environment. To list a few:

1.     Augustin, Sally. 2009. Place Advantage: Applied psychology for interior architecture. John Wiley and sons inc.
2.      Hollander, Ann Sussman and Justin B. 2015. Cognitive Architecture: Designing for how we respond to the Built environment. Routledge.
3.      Pile, John. 2000. A history of interior design. Laurence King Publishing.

These books in particular will expand the psychological study of a human experience in an interactive design space. There is an evolution of interior space design which needs further elaboration for the modern designs used in commercial projects.
